The Lightsphere Collapsible is made from soft vinyl making this Lightsphere flexible yet durable. The Lightsphere Collapsible boasts the first mounting system of its kind. It utilizes patent pending sizing ribs to provide an equally tight fit to several sizes of flashes without the need for straps or bands and collapses down to a 1 1/2 inch thick ring allowing for easy storage. The Inverted Dome, which works with all exisiting accessories, is included with the purchase. The light output is equivalent to a half cloud. |

I ordered and received the Collapsible Lightsphere to use with a Nikon sb900 flash unit. I read several reports that it did not fit properly, or would not fit at all! Watched several videos from Gary Fong demonstrating how it went on the SB900. Gary was right! Yes, the first few times you put it on the fit is tight (this is a good thing!). A friend has the older version of the Lightsphere and is ordering the collapsible after he tried mine.
Best of all the result speak for themselves...the light "wraps" around your subject and gives a very soft illumination to the subject - say "goodby" to harsh shadows. If you want even more control you can put the sb900 with the lightsphere attached in "remote" mode and use the pop-up flash on the Nikon in "command" mode to trigger the flash without spilling direct light on the subject - allowing you to get very creative illumination.
I've owned two different "three-light" systems and the results with the Collapsible Lightsphere are quite impressive - best money for lighting that I've every spent.

I'll be the first to say I'm NOT a major flash user... in fact, even in my professional work... if not especially, I avoid it at ALL costs! However, we all know that not everything can happen by the lovely light of day, and so sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! Obviously I will NOT shoot a naked flash, for all the very reasons I'm not a flash fan to being with.
That being said, when push comes to shove and I needed to get flash "ware" I was ecstatic to find this treasure... most great diffusers are big, bulky and mostly a pain in the watoosie to lug around (read: aw-kward!) Knowing my diffuser will spend more time IN my bag (or luggage, as I enjoy the traveling more oft than not!) this is the ONLY option to reduce all unnecessary space!
I was particularly impressed with it's sincere grip on the actual flash unit, even after some application & removal, and repetition. It's made strong, and sturdy, and with an unbelievable versatility for the long-term! |

| We have the regular LightSphere and absolutely love it but it is a little bulky to carry especially when traveling. When I found out about this product I just had to buy it. It works the same as the regular LightSphere but can easily be stored in my camera bag. I received it quicker than expected and it was very well packaged. |
Must have flash accessory!

I just received my Gary Fong Collapsible ListSphere yesterday and have used it for taking pictures for my food blog. The way this accessory diffuses light is truly amazing. I have uploaded several photos that I took using this diffuser. The great thing about this diffuser is that it's collapsible and fits into my portable Tamrac shoulder bag. When this accessory is on my flash it's a little unwieldy but the result far outweighs the extra bulk this creates for the camera.
The first time I tried to put it on it was a little hard to do but if you follow the directions that come with the LightSphere you will figure it out and it will work great for you. |

| I have owned and used a regular Gary Fong Lightsphere for a few years, and I have always like the convenience and diffused lighting it creates...but now that my business has two shooters, I needed another one. When I saw the collapsible one, I thought it was genius. I probably could have carried another regular lightsphere through the strap of my should camera bag (which is how I've always had it), but it is nice to be able to pack it in the other bag without needing too much space. It works just as good as the regular. |
